The National Unity Government (NUG) and the Bamar People’s Liberation Army (BPLA) have agreed to cooperate in the war to overthrow Burma’s military regime. According to a recent NUG statement, officials from both sides met on Wednesday and agreed to fight together with “mutual respect and recognition in political and military affairs”.
They also discussed the role of the interim government, formed by former lawmakers from the previous National League for Democracy government, various ethnic armed groups and others who fought against the dictatorship, and their plans to establish a federal union once the conflict ends.
NUG Defence Minister Yee Mon and Naing Htoo Aung, the defence minister, met with BPLA commander Maung Saung Hka and Yoe Ann Min, the armed group’s camp commander.
Both organisations were formed after last year’s coup to challenge the regime of Min Aung Hlaing.
