The People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) launched a joint attack with drones and ground troops on a regime camp in Taninthari Region on 4 June.

“After bombs landed on the Burma army camp, the PDF soldiers shot at the camp at close range,” a villager who requested anonymity for security reasons has informed NMG. Locals said the junta suffered casualties in the attacks on the camp, which is located near a school in Ton Byaw Gyi in Myeik Township.

A PDF officer said his troops dropped 11 bombs and ground troops fired for 30 minutes. Two regime columns from nearby Za Wel and Ma Zor were dispatched to support the camp in southern Burma, after which the resistance forces withdrew.

A day after the incident, the Non-Aligned Guerrilla Force reported that they attacked the camp along with the Southern Warriors Defence Force and Myeik PDF Battalion 2, where soldiers from the Burma army and Pyusawhtee People’s Militia Force (PMF) stay together. The groups claimed that 3 enemy soldiers were killed during the noontime attack and no one on their side was killed or injured and all were able to withdraw safely from the area.

Sources on the ground reported two ambulances arriving at the camp an hour later and transporting injured soldiers to the town of Myeik.

Although regime forces didn’t immediately return the attack with heavy weapons fire, they fired about 20 shells at Ton Byaw Nge and Lay Mai the next morning, suspecting that resistance soldiers would come through these villages on their retreat. In February, resistance groups ambushed the same camp and captured a rifle.

The resistance groups frequently clash with Burma army and PMF around Ton Byaw Gyi and Ton Byaw Lay.
