On the 1000th day anniversary of Burma’s Spring Revolution, National Unity Government (NUG) stated that it’s time to build a federal democratic union together with Operation 1027, launched by Three Brotherhoods Alliance.
“We should not miss this opportunity,” said Dr Win Myat Aye, NUG’s minister of humanitarian and disaster management, about the offensives that started on Friday, October 27.
“We have passed through the darkness and started to see the rays of dawn. All resistance groups aim to build a federal democratic union.”
During his speech on October 29, coinciding with the Thadingyut full moon, the minister urged all armed groups to launch unified offensives against State Administration Council (SAC) to “secure victory for our people”.
After Arakan Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and Ta’ang National Liberation Army launched their offensive in northern Shan State, supported by many People’s Defence Forces (PDFs), nearly 90 SAC bases have been taken. Fighting has spilled over into Kachin State as well as Mandalay and Sagaing regions. NUG has vowed to launch its own parallel military operation against SAC with PDFs under its command.
NUG President Mahn Win Khine Than said, “Ethnic armed organisations (EAOs) have launched a strategic offensive operation against the Burma army to uproot the military dictatorship and build a new federal democratic union,” while emphasizing how the EAOs and PDFs are working closely with the National Unity Consultative Council.
