A Burma Army (BA) column torched a village in its latest attack against civilians in Magwe Region.
“They burnt down the whole village and now no one can go back,” says a Shar Due resident who told NMG that although he couldn’t see exactly what was happening, he saw huge plumes of smoke and flames from his hiding place outside the village.
Villagers reported that shortly after they arrived at 7am on Friday, the military column had started burning houses in the village in Pakokku Township.
When the soldiers showed up in Shar Due, which has about 200 houses, the residents had already fled and they didn’t know which battalion was responsible for the destruction.
Last June, the army had burnt down almost all the homes in the nearby villages of Tawng Palu, Ashay Kam Phyu and Dae Pyar.
