More than 10,000 local people displaced in Kaw Lin and Kanbalu

Two military columns of Burma army have launched operation in border area between Kaw Lin and Kanbalu (also spell as Kantbalu) townships in Sagaing region. Therefore, more than 10,000 people flee to take shelter in safe area.

Local people said that they were fear of Burma army and fled to take shelter in safe area because two military columns of Burma army have had military activities along the area between Kanbalu and Kaw Lin townships.

“A military column has arrived into Kaw Lin township this morning from Kanbalu township. At the movement, the military column has arrived in Tawng Bo Hla, and Zee Phyu Kon village area in Kaw Lin. I am sure that Local people have been displaced in southern Kaw Lin township,” a local man (source 1), who lives in Kanbalu township, told NMG.

He (source 1) said that Burma army indiscriminately fired artillery in Kanbalu township after clash in the township on August 23.

“After clash occurs in Aung Chan Thar village in Kanbalu township (on August 23), they often attack civilian villages with MI-35 and MI-17 combat helicopters. They (BA) said that they have launched clearance operation here. They have sent more troops into this area since the time,” he (source 1) told NMG.

A local man (source 2), who lives in Kaw Lin township, said that two military columns of Burma army from Kanbalu township have launched operation in Kaw Lin township in September. <<>>>

“Burma army built a new military camp in Koe Tawng Bo village in Kanbalu. From this camp, two military columns have launched operation in Kaw Lin. A military column includes nearly 150 BA soldiers and another military column has more than 80 BA soldiers. Local people are fear of them. Therefore, local people flee to hide in safe area. Local people flee from their village before military column arrives into their village,” he (source 2) told NMG.

He (source 2) said that more than 10,000 local people from 13 villages locating between Kaw Lin and Kanbalu township were displaced.

“People from 13 villages in southern Kaw Lin township and Kanbalu fled to hide in jungle. These IDP mainly need food ration. Some villages share their food with IDP. They need humanitarian aid,” he (source 2) told NMG.

People’s Defense Force clashed with Burma army near Ah Yoe hill in eastern Kaw Lin township on September 12. Kaw Lin PDF reported that 10 PDF soldiers and 2 civilians were killed during the clash in Kaw Lin township.

Burma army arrested more than 20 villagers from Khan Tha village in Kanbalu township. Later on, BA soldiers released all villagers. Burma army continues to attack civilian villages in Kanbalu township with artillery until today. Military standoff remains high between Burma army and civilian resistance groups in both Kaw Lin and Kanbalu townships in Sagaing region.
