In parallel with Operation 1027, the acting president of the National Unity Government (NUG) has vowed to increase the seizures of towns by People’s Defense Forces under its control.

“The success of Operation 1027 has offered a ray of hope for people both inside and abroad. This is a joint military operation, and we have seen the positive results of the Spring Revolution. We’ll continue capturing more towns as we continue the offensive operation against them,” Duwa Lashi La said at NUG’s 35th meeting last week.

The NUG leader said after PDFs and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) seized Kawlin, the first administrative capital captured by resistance forces, located in Sagaing Region about 125 miles north of Mandalay, on November 6, they will keep marching towards Kalay and Tamu until they take these towns too.

These coordinated operations facilitated under the leadership of various ethnic armed groups and resistance forces have demonstrated unity and improved military prowess, he said.

“We are able to carry out this clandestinely before launching the military offensive operation. We need to increase our unity as much as possible for this revolution.”

Three Brotherhoods Alliance—Arakan Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and Ta’ang National Liberation Army—announced capturing 128 military camps between October 27, when Operation 1027 started, until November 9. The alliance said in the statement last week it will topple SAC and eliminate online gambling operations started by proxy forces working for the regime.

In his speech, Duwa Lashi La said, “SAC bears full responsibility for ending the armed conflicts along the China – Burma border and for restoring peace in the country. All ethnic people have demanded the army to leave politics. If the coup leader Min Aung Hlaing and his followers agree to end the military dictatorship and to grant full determination rights for ethnic people and build a federal democracy system in the country, all of the current political problems and armed conflicts will soon end.”

He said that SAC shelling fired at Laiza, the headquarters of KIA’s political wing, Kachin Independence Organization, landed in China and killed several Chinese nationals.

He said NUG is planning to discuss the incident with the Chinese government. Unless SAC stops its bombardment against Laiza, which started after Operation 1027, Duwa Lashi La explained that there will never be peace on either side of the border.

Since the coup, SAC has frequently clashed with ethnic armed organizations along the Sino–Burma border in Kachin and northern Shan states.
