Pyusawhtee Leader Killed In Irrawaddy Township

Pyusawhtee leader Khin Maung Kyi was sitting in a tea shop when he was killed by two armed assailants on 5 October. After the attack, soldiers arrested more than 30 people, including Ma Maw Maw, the owner of Sawari tea shop and eight other women, during a three-day sweep mainly affecting 13 Street in Mawlamyine Kyun town from.

Locals report that many people saw the two gunmen kill the Pyusawhtee leader, including several BA soldiers. Later, all those who’d witnessed his death were arrested.
According to the Ayayarwaddy People’s Defence Force (PDF), soldiers from the PDFs Bokale and Mawlamyin Kyun are behind the killing which is part of the Nang Hteik Aung military operation currently underway in the Irrawaddy Region.
At least five leaders appointed by the regime, including a village headman, have been killed in Mawlamyine Kyun Township since the coup.
