About 3,000 civilians in Magwe Region have fled after the Burma Army (BA) attacked a village in Myaing Township.
A Linkataw resident, who requested anonymity, has told NMG that soldiers entered his village of 1,000 houses on 22 October and burned down some houses the next morning. Everyone had fled before the junta fighters showed up.
“We cannot say how many homes the BA soldiers torched,” the man said, explaining that the incident happened after the Yesagyo and Myaing People Defence Forces (PDFs) attacked an army camp with 50 soldiers near Linkataw a few days earlier.
An officer from the Yesagyo PDF said they attacked the camp at close range and were then attacked by an M-35 gunship for 30 minutes, but no one from his side was injured in the air strike. At least seven regime fighters were killed, he said, and they captured two BA bunkers for a while until the regime launched a second air strike, forcing them to retreat.
Before they withdrew, the PDF fighters set fire to the fence around the camp.
