The People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) and the Crocodile military column simultaneously attacked a police station and several military camps in a brazen action against the regime in Taninthari Region last Friday, 9 December.

“The commander of the Pala Police Station claimed that he had tightened security in the Pala sub-township in Palaw Township. We wanted to show them how easily we can enter Pala town and attack the station,” a PDF officer told NMG on condition of anonymity.

The resistance groups attacked military camps in Tamai Tawng, Nan Tawng, Palaw Kon, Pawat Kon, Makyee Kon and Toe, including some strategic artillery positions in the mountains overlooking the villages and Pala town in southern Burma. They also destroyed the ward office in town, near the hospital, by a landmine explosion.

Within hours, the junta sent reinforcements, stopped everyone at the checkpoints and examined houses near the station.

A villager from Zayap Seik reported hearing the explosion at the government office and the firing of light and heavy weapons. “The villagers around Pala town have fled to Myeik or to their relatives. Very few people have remained after the fighting,” he said, asking that his identity not be revealed.

Two regime soldiers and a police officer were killed and many others were wounded, the officer said, while the resistance fighters escaped the town at 11am without any casualties.
