The Military Affairs Security (MAS) office and a police station in Seng Tawng Ward of Hpakant town came under fire from Kachin resistance fighters in Kachin State on Monday, 25 September.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Battalion 6 and People’s Defense Force – Kachin Region (PDF-K) attacked both buildings simultaneously at about 4 am, according to an anonymous source. They said the groups seized the MAS office.

Another anonymous source said junta soldiers indiscriminately fired artillery into the area following the attacks from their hilltop position.

Although locals said there were casualties, at press time NMG had not received any specific information about this. After, soldiers and police were out in force, stopping pedestrians in the ward.

On 21 September, the resistance groups killed two police officers and wounded three others traveling to a clinic in Seik Muu in Hpakant Township.

In August, the groups seized the Burma army’s Kaseim hilltop camp and the camp of the Shanni Nationalities Army near Sel Zin in the township.
