The Three Brotherhoods—the Arakan Army, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army–staged attacks on State Administration Council (SAC) targets across northern Shan State as part of its Operation 1027 offensive since October 27.
Multiple SAC camps and a tollgate were attacked simultaneously in at least five townships in the state.
A Kutkai woman reported hearing gunfire at 5 am on Friday. “We heard that clashes broke out in Lashio, Muse, Kutkai and Namkham townships at the same time. We also heard that clashes broke out in Chin Shwe Haw of Laukkai (Township) and the Kokang army (MNDAA) seized Chin Shwe Haw.”
She said that news has spread that the TNLA and MNDAA have joined forces to seize many SAC camps.
TNLA troops seized the 13-mile camp and another one located on the Namkham and Namphetka road in Namkham Township. According to BBC’s Burmese edition and Shwe Phimyay News the MNDAA troop seized a Burma army near Chin Shwe Haw and later the entire town.
A Lashio man said, “A Burma army’s aircraft has been circling around Chin Shwe Haw at 11 am, where fighting is continuing.” He heard that many people from the town who were displaced can’t return after the highway has been blocked. The man said SAC planes are also flying over the town of Lashio, which is currently completely sealed off by the regime.
In a statement announcing the 1027 Operation, the Three Brotherhoods have vowed to eliminate online gambling and fight SAC to eliminate the military dictatorship.
