On Tuesday, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Arakan Army (AA) seized the State Administration Council’s (SAC) Gangdau Yang mountain camp in Kachin State.
According to Col Naw Bu, the Kachin Independence Organisation’s spokesperson, the hilltop camp, strategically positioned over the Myitkyina – Bhamo road at the junction of Ner Hpaw and Pajau, had been under military control for a decade.
The resistance forces launched the attack at 6 am and successfully seized it within two hours.
He reported that at least six civilian houses in Ja Hta were burnt to the ground after SAC shelled and attacked the village with an aircraft, along with Gangdau Yang mountain.
“As far as I know, there have been no civilian casualties in this area.”
On Monday, KIA Battalion 8, under Brigade 4, also seized SAC’s Mong Maw camp in Mangton Township in northern Shan State after launching their attack on Sunday.
Three Brotherhoods Alliance—consisting of AA, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and Ta’ang National Liberation Army—has seized over 70 camps in northern Shan State since launching Operation 1027 last Friday. Since then, fighting has intensified in Kachin State, leading to SAC now clearly being forced to take a defensive position.
