The Kawlin People’s Defense Force (PDF) successfully seized control of Kawlin from the State Administration Council (SAC) following prolonged fighting in the town, located in Sagaing Region. According to National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defence, soldiers in the town raised a white flag to the PDF and other resistance groups on the morning of November 6.

“We have detained the SAC soldiers. Upon learning that some of them have fled to Wontho Township, our troops have blocked the roads to capture them,” stated an anonymous PDF fighter.

Kawlin is the most recent district-level town to fall to the resistance since the commencement of Operation 1027. This operation has seen the capture of several towns in northern Shan State and over 90 junta bases in Shan and Kachin states, as well as in Mandalay and Sagaing regions.

In Kawlin, resistance groups have initiated a rescue operation to relocate civilians affected by SAC airstrikes, which resulted in casualties the previous day. The town’s population is estimated at 25,000.

The armed groups began their attacks on Friday, with fighting breaking out near the police station, high school, land department office, and Myanmar Economic Bank – all locations where SAC soldiers were stationed. By Monday, the groups continued the attack until the soldiers surrendered at the General Administration Development office.

Yesterday, around 54 assault rifles, ammunition, and other military equipment were captured from the Burma army.
