Chin resistance groups killed many junta soldiers in attacks on the Burma Army (BA) in Matupi Township in southern Chin State.

According to a Matupi Chinland Defence Force (CDF) officer, they and other groups fighting to overthrow the military regime attacked several BA columns travelling between Lai Len Pi and Matupi town last week.

He said CDF, the Chin National Army and the Zotung armed group attacked 60 regime soldiers at 6am on 7 July in Amm Lai village where they were staying. At least 2 BA soldiers were killed and about 6 wounded.

A day earlier, the groups had clashed three times in the area, killing five junta soldiers and seriously wounding two. According to the CDF officer, the BA’s Infantry Battalion 304 based near Matupi town burnt down three houses in Ran Hken the same day after the fighting.

He said the BA column of 100 soldiers had left from Matupi town and suspected there were as many as four columns moving through the township. The column, which was in Amm Lai, left on 8 July, but no one could say where they were going.

According to volunteers, the villagers displaced by BA offensives and fighting with Chin groups need food, medicine and materials to build shelters during the rainy season.
