The regime reportedly shot a Lisu man and destroyed the man’s body by burning it in the grounds of his own house after tying up his brother and preventing his mother from intervening in the village in Kachin State.

Lemae Dee’s wife fainted after they murdered the 35-year-old in front of their house after he returned to Ah Lam from a rafting trip to search for gold in the river at 9pm on 18 September. The couple have two children.

Youths told the NMG that they’d complained to the Lisu National Development Party (LNDP) about the murder and it did nothing.

The LNDP is too afraid to speak out because the Burma Army (BA) murdered Lemae Dee, said a youth from the area, who wished to remain anonymous. Since the military regime took power last year, both the soldiers and the police have committed heinous acts of violence against the people, he said.

“Those of us who belong to a minority group are afraid of all armed organisations.”

A villager, who didn’t want to provide a name, said that the victim’s brother was tied to a pillar in their house after he was murdered, and that their mother was held on the first floor.

“If their neighbors left the houses, the soldiers would shoot them.”

Most of the 4,000 inhabitants of Ah Lam, which lies between Myitkyina and Myitsone towns in Myitkyina Township, are farmers.

The same night, 100 BA soldiers in two trucks were in Don Gam to check the residents’ household registries. Locals said the soldiers opened fire when they entered the village, which is close to Ah Lam.

On 17 September, a military officer in Don Gam rammed two women with his car.

On the evening of 13 September, BA soldiers shot dead a man on a motorbike who failed to stop at a checkpoint in Aye Mya Thayar ward of Myitkyina town.
