Ma May Zun Moe, a nurse who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), has been found dead after being abducted by the regime.
“She was arrested by soldiers when she was on her way to help a People’s Defence Force (PDF) soldier’s wife give birth,” on 29 January, a Oak Hpo PDF officer told NMG. Two PDF members who provided security for the nurse as she was travelling in the township were shot dead at a junta checkpoint.
Ma May Zun Moe’s body was discovered by the Oak Hpo PDF in the township in Thayawady District, western Bago Region, on 23 February, and the resistance fighters buried her body.
Locals heard she was killed by the junta soldiers near Bago Yoma Mountain on 16 February and her clothes were found in a ravine in eastern Htanpin Kon village.
The PDF officer said they had evidence that Ma May Zun Moe was raped before she was killed and part of her body burnt. Another PDF officer told NMG, they haven’t released the information for security reasons but there was an eyewitness and they know the identity of the rapist.
The soldiers who killed her, which includes Ko Myo Win Thu, a member of a Pyu Saw Htee under the regime, are staying in Htanpin Kon village.
May Zun Moe married Ko Aung Zin three months ago, who was sentenced to three years in Thayawady Prison for violating Article 505. She is originally from Kyat Kwin village and worked as a nurse at Aye Mya Thaya Hospital before joining the protest movement.
