Five people, including a child, were injured by indiscriminate regime shelling in Htigyaing Township, Sagaing Region. The shelling began after a column of one hundred soldiers arrived at Nat Inn from Htigyaing town on 17 February.

Between 2 and 3pm, three shells were fired, two of which hit Chin Kyar Kon between Kam Nee and Wel Gyi, injuring the civilians, a man told NMG on condition of anonymity.

“We didn’t get their names because we fled from the Burma Army, but I can confirm that five people were wounded by the shelling and that two of them are in critical condition while the condition of the other three people is stable.”

No one could also say which battalion the soldiers belonged to, except that they were wearing a red band on their arms.

A few days before the attack, soldiers patrolling the east bank of the Irrawaddy had killed U Kan Hlaing and Ko Pauk Sa from Pauk Net and burned their bodies.

Pauk Net is located near the Mya Tawng junction on the Bhamo – Mandalay highway.

The military column burnt down some houses in Inn Gyi and Lay Bo. On the same day, soldiers from Infantry Battalion 12 burned houses in Hintha.

According to locals, three junta columns regularly patrol the east bank of the Irrawaddy River, where they often fire artillery at villages and burn and loot houses, leaving civilians to seek shelter from the violence.
