The Burma army fought the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) after the former entered the Ta’ang group’s area, interrupting a lull in the violence between them in northern Shan State as the regime focused on its other enemies in central Burma.

“The Burma army has deployed troops in our territory, but they haven’t sent any more troops yet. Troops from Light Infantry Division (LID) 101 and 99 have been sent to the area and are ready to attack us,” TNLA spokesperson Lt- Col Mai Aik Kyaw remarked.

In the last week of May, about 60 sit-tat (Burma military) soldiers from LIB-504 under the Military Operation Command intruded the TNLA’s Brigade 6 area, leading to a two-hour battle before the regime fighters withdrew, he said. Since then, things have been quiet.

After the military coup, many ethnic armed organisations have fought against the junta, including the numerous People’s Defence Force, drastically decreasing clashes with the TNLA.
