Resistance groups fighting the military regime have organised an art and poetry exhibition in the jungle of Demoso Township.
“Our comrades are tired and we wanted to make them happy by helping them relax their minds,” a male organiser told NMG.
During the Post Modernist Extreme Art Exhibition, three fighters displaced their 3-D paintings and installation art and recited poetry on the morning of 11 June.
The organiser said they were not yet sure if they will sell the artworks, which were made from the materials of houses destroyed by the regime’s air raids and the uniforms of their fallen soldiers.
Unfortunately, the rain posed some challenges during the two-hour exhibition, which was not open to the public for safety reasons, so the organisers had to cover the paintings until it stopped.
About 100 soldiers attended the showing, the first of its kind in Karenni State, which ended with a raffle of paints and a hat for the winners. Organisers hoped to have a second exhibition another time conditions permitting.
