The Karenni Nationalities Defence Force chair, Khun Bedu, reported that the Burma army killed more than 300 civilians in Karenni state within over two and half years of the military coup on its online talk show. The regime not only commits these types of human rights abuses in his region but it is also happening all over the country, he pointed out on the special program.
“The Burma army killed nearly 17 civilians in Mobye last month and didn’t return their to their families. The soldiers entered Mobye town and shot them and also killed civilians at the roadside entrance of Loikaw town in recent days.”
The Military Council arrested, tortured, and killed people and intentionally attacked civilian villages with artillery and airstrikes as well as indiscriminately firing their rifles at civilian villages during operations in Karenni and southern Shan states, Khun Bedu explained.
U Aung Myo Min, who is the minister of the human rights ministry of the National Unity Government, said that regime has violated international law by systematically committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
“In Burma, the Military Council violates not only 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights but also commits crimes against humanity and war crimes. It intentionally attacks civilians as its enemies. The Burma army has committed genocide against the Rohingya people.”
He elaborated that issuing statements of condemnation won’t work against these military criminals; the world, especially the United Nations and its Human Rights Council, must take real action.
On 1 August, the civilian watchdog group, the Progressive Karenni People’s Force, reported that 375 civilian people were killed, 196 people were arrested, and there were 766 clashes in Karenni state between 1 February 2021 and 31 July 2023.
