According a military source within the State Administration Council (SAC), a vehicle convoy transporting a deputy police commander came under attack by the Danu People’s Liberation Front (DPLF) between Baw Yay Oo and Theim Kon villages in Ywangan Township of Taunggyi District in Danu Self-administered Zone in southern Shan State.
“After we attacked the military convoy with landmines, we realized that deputy police commander for Taunggyi District was traveling with it. A source from their inner circle confirmed it and it’s how we know about it,” an officer from the resistance group’s information department has told NMG.
The convoy was travelling from its camp near the Yon Bway betel nut garden when the attack happened at around 8 am on October 21. There were four trucks in the convoy that day and two of them were damaged, resulting in the deaths of seven soldiers. One of them died during the landmine blast and the other six died in the hospital in Aungpan (also called Aungban) from injuries sustained when the DPLF fired their rifles at the soldiers after the landmine was detonated. One of them was a corporal in the Burma army and three were members of a Pyusawhtee militia force under SAC.
The DPLF said they received intelligence about the convoy’s route from their source and planned the attack at least two days in advance of its journey in the township. “Sometimes we have to end our mission because our target is located very close to civilians. We want to warn civilians to avoid SAC troops because we will attack them (SAC) anywhere.”
Following the recent attack, the army set up a road block on the Ywangan – Yay Oo road, arresting two locals on October 22.
At the end of September, DPLF reportedly killed at least three Burma army soldiers when they ambushed them in Ba Htoo in Lawksawk Township.
