Burma army artillery attacks and airstrikes injured three villagers including an 18-month-old infant in Lashio Township, northern Shan state. On 7 April around 9 a.m., regime soldiers used artillery to attack Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) soldiers in Ner Mahkaw village in Nawng Moon village-tract. This was soon followed bomb attack from a jet fighter.

“We left Nawng Moon village and had just arrived in Ner Makhaw village when the Burma army fired six shells at us. After that, they launched airstrikes against us. We didn’t respond with any shooting because we were inside the village. We quickly retreated from the village,” a TNLA soldier told NMG.

Local people said that the Burma army first attacked Ner Mahkaw village with artillery then launched an airstrike in the area surrounding Ner Mahkaw village. An artillery shell hit a civilian house in Ner Mahkaw and injured three family members.

“The injured people are all from the same family. A father, a mother and their baby were wounded by the Burma army’s shelling. They are now receiving medical treatment at a hospital. A rescue vehicle picked them up in their village and transported them to a nearby hospital,” a Ner Mahkaw village resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, told NMG.

Local people said that they think the Burma army attacked the TNLA troops when they learned about the movement of TNLA troops in this area, and that the TNLA didn’t shoot back at the regime soldiers when they were close to the village.

Local people said that the TNLA troops were from TNLA Battalion no-236, under TNLA Brigade-4, and that they had been active in the area around Ner Mahkaw village for a few days.
